Polyurethane Additives: Flame Retardants & Catalysts
We handle flame retardants and catalysts for flexible and rigid polyurethane foams and elastomers. Candidates are reviewed according to your application, formulation and processing conditions.
Sourcing Challenges You Can Discuss
- Find alternatives to existing flame retardants or catalysts for formulation evaluation.
- Compare candidates against flame-performance, odor, fogging and processing requirements.
- Check SDS and technical-document availability and supply conditions for sample evaluation.
Product Types
Flame retardants
Phosphate-ester options include halogen-containing, halogen-free and reactive types. We review options for applications such as flexible foams for furniture, bedding and automotive interiors, and rigid foams for building insulation and refrigeration.
Catalysts
Options include amine, reactive and trimerization catalysts. Selection considers the blowing/gelation balance, reaction speed and processing conditions. Ask us about requirements for low odor or low emissions.
Applications, Selection and Evaluation
Selection criteria
Tell us the foam or elastomer type, required flame performance, odor, fogging and VOC requirements, viscosity, formulation compatibility and foaming conditions. We also review alternatives to current materials and cost-improvement opportunities.
Application Examples
- Flexible foam:Cushioning for sofas, mattresses and automotive seats, acoustic materials, and protective packaging.
- Rigid foam:Building insulation, refrigeration equipment, and thermal insulation for tanks and pipes.
- Elastomers:Wire and cable coverings, door and window seals, and automotive components.
What to Check During Sample Evaluation
In addition to flame performance, consider application-specific requirements for density, hardness, rebound resilience, tensile and tear properties, air permeability, fatigue, smoke generation, odor, fogging and VOC. Compare formulations under consistent test conditions, including changes in properties caused by additive dosage. You can also discuss candidates where low viscosity or low fogging is a priority.
These are selection and evaluation considerations, not guarantees of performance or test-data availability for every product. Availability of the required documentation is checked individually.
Information for your inquiry
Share the application, performance and test-standard requirements, formulation constraints, quantity and target delivery date. We individually check availability of SDS, technical documents and samples, along with supply conditions.
Flame performance, odor and other properties depend on the grade, formulation and processing conditions. This is not a guarantee of finished-product compliance. Suitability and documentation for the intended application and destination are checked individually; evaluate samples before selection.

| Comparison point | Candidate A (example) | Candidate B (example) |
|---|---|---|
| Requirements fit | Specification sheet reviewed; application evaluation not yet performed | Supplier being asked about suitability for the required conditions |
| Technical documents | Specification sheet available; test conditions need clarification | Availability of required documents being checked |
| Sample evaluation | Review test items, quantity and cost before considering arrangements | First check whether samples can be supplied |
| Price, quantity and lead time | Check a quotation for the same quantity, packaging and delivery terms | Request matching terms for a meaningful comparison |
Actual comparison items and the availability of documents and samples vary by project. Unverified points are identified; suitability is assessed after the required evaluation.
